Alonnissos
Alonnissos is the centrepiece of Greece's first national marine park, and the water quality shows — it's the clearest in the Aegean. The island is quiet, forested, and relatively undeveloped. The old village (Chora), abandoned after a 1965 earthquake and now restored, is a beautiful place to wander. The main attraction beyond the scenery is the possibility of spotting Mediterranean monk seals — one of the rarest marine mammals in the world.
