Lipsi is small enough to walk across in an hour, and better for it — a place where the entire geography becomes personal within a single day, the taverna owners know your name by the second evening, and the only decision requiring serious thought each morning is which beach and in what order. Katsadia beach, a gentle curve of shingle and clear shallow water in a sheltered inlet, is one of the most relaxing spots in the Dodecanese. The village festival in honour of the Virgin of Lipsi, celebrated on August 23rd, is a genuine local celebration worth being present for if the timing aligns. The island has none of the spiritual weight of nearby Patmos, nor the architectural drama of Symi — just a very simple, very good small-island experience, exactly as presented, with nothing hidden and nothing exaggerated.
