Telendos
Telendos is Kalymnos's best-kept secret — a tiny islet just 750 metres offshore, reached by a five-minute caïque that runs throughout the day. There are no cars, a single strip of tavernas along the waterfront facing the larger island, and a permanent population of around sixty people. Byzantine ruins on the hillside and the remnants of a monastery add a faint historic charge to the walk above the village. The swimming at Hohlakas beach — black volcanic pebbles dropping steeply into crystal-clear water — is excellent. But the real draw is the atmosphere: Telendos feels like a secret even though it is entirely accessible, a place where time slows down in a way that a single day communicates as deeply as a week elsewhere. Rock climbers use it as a quieter base for the Kalymnos crags. Almost everyone who stays wishes they had come for longer.
